Overheard

At the coffee shop, two young women who’ve recently completed their freshman year of college are comparing notes and talking about what they’ll be doing in the fall. Then they move on to a discussion about applying for study abroad programs that will take place in their junior year, and one of them says, “It’s so hard to think about because that’s so far in the future!”

That is when I realized how very old I am. To them, the fall of 2016 might as well be another century whereas to me it is just about an eyeblink away. It will be here just a few breaths from now, or so it will seem.

“I know!” exclaims the other. “And anything could happen between now and then.”

There you go. On that, we agree.
